OLATHE, Kan. -- The William Woods University baseball team extended its undefeated streak in mid-week contests to 10 games, as they swept a pair of seven inning games at MidAmerican Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon.

William Woods (29-9) was able to win game one in their final at-bat, as junior Cody Stewart worked a bases loaded walk to force in a run in the top of the seventh to give his team the 4-3 victory. The Owls would have an easier time taking game two from MidAmerica Nazarene (24-13), as a pair of big innings in the second and third allowed WWU to take the series finale, 10-2.

Junior Austin Clapp had a big day at the plate for William Woods, as the third baseman went a combined 4-for-7 and slugged his third home run of the year in game two. Senior Matt Thomas collected a combined team-high four RBI on the afternoon, three of which game in game two's rout.

2013 American Midwest Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Garret Haslag turned in his best performance of the 2014 season in game two, as the starter went a season-best 6.1 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits, while striking out three, to pick up his first win on the year.

Game One Recap

Junior Cody Stewart was able to work a two-out bases loaded walk to bring in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, and that would prove to be the game's deciding run, as the William Woods University baseball team was able to take game one, 4-3.

With the game tied at 3-3, WWU was able to load the bases with just one on in the top of the seventh. Sam Moon bounced into a 5-2 fielder's choice, as Tyler Nemmers was forced out at home for the second out of the frame. Stewart came to the plate looking for the go-ahead RBI, and he got it as he was able to work a four-pitch-walk to force Alex St. Pierre in from third to give the Owls a 4-3 lead.

James Ball, who came into the game with one out in the fourth inning, was able to work around a pair of one-out singles, as he closed the game out with a 5-4 double play to preserve the one-run victory.

The Owls bullpen was yet again dominate, as the combination of Ball and Dylan Hastings did not allow a run to score in their 4.1 innings of work. The duo allowed just two hits, both off Ball in the seventh, and struck out a combined five batters in the outing.

Austin Clapp, Kyle Switzer, and Stewart each collected a two-hit game in the afternoon's first contest, and Zach Nichols, Nick Spagnola, Dustin Kremer, and Stewart each drove in a run in the one-run win.

William Woods picked up a 3-0 lead during its first at-bat, as Nichols and Spagnola each collected a RBI single, followed by a Kremer fielder's choice to bring in the frame's third run.

The Pioneers got a run back in the bottom of the first with a Joe Smith RBI. Smith would later help MNU tie the game, as he doubled in a run in the bottom of the third, and would later steal home to tie the game at 3-3.

The designated hitter was the only MidAmerica Nazarene player to pick up multiply hits, as Smith went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.

Game Two Recap

The William Woods University baseball team scored a combined nine runs in the second and third inning, and all that would be enough for starter Garret Haslag, as he allowed just two runs in 6.1 innings to help the Owls to 10-2 rout in game two to sweep the Tuesday afternoon doubleheader.

The Owls broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second, thanks to a MidAmerica Nazarene error, allowing Zach Nichols to score from third. Eilert Meyers would give WWU another pair of runs later in the frame, as he drove in two with his one-out RBI double. Cody Stewart drove in the inning's fourth run with an RBI single, and Matt Thomas brought in another, as he grounded out to first base.

William Woods would not be done there, as they added four more in the next inning. Austin Clapp led off the frame with a solo home run, and Thomas drove in two more runs later in the inning thanks to an two-run single. Nichols capped off the inning with an RBI single to up the middle to give the Owls a commanding 9-0 lead.

Stewart collected his second RBI of the game, by drawing his second bases loaded walk on the afternoon, giving WWU a 10-0 lead.

The 10-run lead would be more than enough for Haslag to hold on too, as he was brilliant in his first win of the year, as he allowed just five hits and two runs in 6.1 innings of work. The righty also tied his season-high in strikeouts with three.

Nichols, Spagnola, Clapp, and Meyers each posted a two-hit game for William Woods. The quartet collected eight of the team's 12 hits in game two.

Thomas drove in three runs on the day to lead the team, as he was one of five players to drive in a run for the Owls.

William Woods will jump back into American Midwest Conference action this weekend, as they travel to the Bluegrass State to take on Mid-Continent University. The three-game series opens on Friday night, with a 6 p.m. start time, and conclude on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
