WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- The William Woods University baseball needed a pair of extra-inning games on Saturday afternoon to split a doubleheader against Williams Baptist College. The Owls took game one, 10-7, but fell in walk-off fashion to the Eagles in game two, 4-3.

Despite today's split, William Woods (24-8, 12-6 AMC) was still able to take the three-game series against Williams Baptist (6-24, 1-17 AMC), thanks to its 17-4 win in game one on Friday afternoon. WWU is able to stay in fourth place in the AMC with the two wins this weekend. While for WBC, the 4-3 finale win snaps a 25-game conference losing streak in regular season play.

The Owls broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth inning in game number one, with a five-run fifth inning to win 10-7 in game one, but Williams Baptist was able to recover and score an extra-inning walk-off win in game two, 4-3.

Game One Recap

Cody Stewart ripped a double down the leftfield line in the eighth inning to snap a 5-5 tie. His RBI base hit would lead to four more runs being scored in the frame, as William Woods scored a 10-7 extra-inning win in game one.

With the game tied at 5-5 in the eighth, Stewart ripped the ball down the line to score Alex St. Pierre, who reached on a one-out walk, to give WWU a 6-5 lead. Zach Nichols sent a double to left-centerfield to bring in two more runs, and Austin Clapp capped off the five-run inning with an RBI single to bring in two more runs, and give the Owls the 10-5 lead.

Williams Baptist was able to get two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Nichols came into the game and struck the only batter he faced to secure the 10-7 win.

Nichols had a strong day at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Clapp matched Nichols RBI total, going 1-of-4 with a single and a pair of sacrifices.

The Owls were off and running in game one, by stealing seven bases. Stewart and Nichols combined for four of the seven steals, as they collected two apiece.

James Ball picked up the win out of the bullpen by tossing 3.2 innings of four-run, seven-hit ball. Ball allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth, and had to be replaced by Nichols with two outs, but was still able to pick up the win to move his record to 3-1.

John Cavness got the start for WWU and pitched four innings. The lefty struck out four, but also walked four, as he allowed three runs, two earned, on the day.

Game Two Recap

Nick Scott hit a walk-off single to right-centerfield to help Williams Baptist College snap a 25-game regular season conference losing streak, as they defeated William Woods, 4-3, in final game of this weekend's three-game series.

Scott came to the plate with two on and one out, after Kaegan Brown doubled and Dylan Clark was intentionally walked, and sent a shallow fly ball into right-centerfield to score Brown and give the Eagles their first conference win of the 2014 season.

William Woods found itself down early to WBC, as scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Owls battled back in the sixth inning with a three-run inning, thanks to a two-out rally in which Austin Clapp, Dustin Kremer, and Damon Adrian all picked up RBI, to tie the game at 3-3.

The Owls collected a hit in the seventh and eighth innings, but was unable to get the runners around, setting the stage for Scott's heroics in the eighth.
