Women's Soccer Looks For Its First Win On The Season At Culver-Stockton College

Krispin looks to add to her first collegiate goal against Culver-Stockton College
CANTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team will look to nab its first win of the season on Friday afternoon, as they travel to Canton, Missouri and face Culver-Stockton College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Owls (0-1-0) are coming off a 5-2 defeat against the No. 24 ranked Benedictine College Ravens in its first game of the season. After getting on the board first and grabbing the momentum with a Sarah Krispin goal, just 2:16 minutes into the game. The Owls, however, were unable to slow down the Ravens offense, as they scored five unanswered goals, to grab a four goal advantage.

Junior Jordan McNamara scored the Owls second goal of the night in the 57th minute of the second half, on an assist from Ashley Deckard, but the deficit and the stingy defense of Benedictine proved to be too great, as the Ravens held on for the three-goal win.

"I think we learned some of the steps and processes to succeeding at a very high level, while also witnessing some areas that we are already doing very well in the match-up against Benedictine College," said head coach Randy Hall. "Our defensive shape was really superb, even though we gave up five goals, the reality is that we saw some very good things and stood up to the challenge in a tough environment."

McNamara led the Owls in the shot department, totaling a team-high two shots on goal, while goaltender Brittany Griffin made six saves on the night.

On the season, McNamara and Krispin lead the team in several categories that include, goals (one), points (two), and shots (two).

The last meeting with Culver-Stockton College, the Owls came up short in an 8-1 defeat, despite scoring first, WWU couldn't contain sophomore Stephanie Adleman, as she led the Wildcats offense with three goals on the night.

The Wildcats are coming off an 8-9 overall record in 2013 and a 1-5 Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) record.

CSC return both leading scorers from last season, sophomore Adleman (nine) and Brittney McMahon (six), along with goalkeeper Mackenzie Little, who tallied 83 saves on the year in the net.

"McMahon and Adleman are both very talented and skilled players," expresses Hall. "That being said, I was extremely disappointed with our organization and commitment defensively in our previous meeting and will certainly look to see massive improvements in both those regards."

Hall adding, "Culver is a talented group that is well coached and will certainly provide us with a good measure of our expectations."

"I believe that this match-up will be a great preparation going into the conference season," said Hall. "The game is designed to help the squad parse out the players and the team chemistry that will make the program successfully reach its goals on the season, which are to win a conference championship and make a run at the national tournament."
