Women's Soccer Looks For A Win In Its Home Opener Against Westminster College On Sunday

McNamara leads the Owls in shots (four), points (three) while also adding a goal.
FULTON, Mo.-  The William Woods University women's soccer team will look to snap its two game skid in its home opener on Sunday afternoon, as the Owls take on Westminster College at 3:00 p.m.

The Owls (0-2-0), are coming off a tough 3-2 (2OT) defeat against Culver-Stockton on Friday night. WWU was able to grab the early lead, as Jamie Palermo scored her first goal on the season, off an assist from teammate Jordan McNamara, just 4:29 minutes into the game.

CSC would shortly thereafter score the equalizer goal at the 10:04 mark, as midfielder, Callie Fackler, scored her first career goal, tying the game up 1-1.

Senior, Brittainy German would then score her first goal on the year, at the 53:38 mark, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead over CSC. With that said, however, the Wildcats would not go away quietly, as Alyx Seats responded and tied the game up 2-2 in the 58th minute and at the end of 90:00 minutes of play, it was off to overtime in Canton, Mo.

Despite the offensive pressure in the first overtime from WWU, it was Seats scoring her second goal on the night for CSC in the 106th minute, giving the Wildcats a 3-2 (2OT) victory.

On the season, McNamara leads the Owls in shots (four) and points (three), while also adding a goal. Three other Owls have also found the back of the net on the year and they are Palermo, Sarah Krispin and German.

In the previous meeting against cross town rival Westminster College last year, a late two-goal rally sparked WWU to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory. McNamara collected her first hat-trick of her career, helping the Owls defeat the Blue Jays.

The Owls dominated most of the first frame by collecting nine shots, as the defense allowed just two Westminster shots in the half, however, the Blue Jays evened the game in the opening minute of the second half.

With six minutes left in the game, the Owls had two shots deflect off the post preventing WWU from taking the lead. However, the second deflection was played outside the box by McNamara and she sent it back in to find teammate Rachel Meyer for the game-winning goal.

William Woods wasn't done there, as McNamara collected her third goal of the game in the 87th minute to secure the 4-2 win.

WC is coming off a 6-12-1 overall record in 2013 and a 4-5-0 Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record.

The Blue Jays are returning both leading scorers from last season, juniors, LaTayisah Ousley(12) and Eileen Koppy (seven), along with goaltender Ellen Woosley, who collected 121 saves on the year.

Westminster College is currently 0-1 and looking for its first win on the 2014 season as well. The team fell 4-0 in its first game on the year against Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Forwards, Ashley Schimmel and Ousely lead the Blue Jays on the season in the shot department, with two and one, respectively. Woosley, meanwhile, has recorded eight saves on the year in net.
