Johnson looks to build of 10.9 ppg and give the Owls the advantage on the boards
FULTON, Mo. - The William Woods University men's basketball team looks to bounce back after suffering a 72-38 loss to No. 20 Ranked Columbia College last night, as the team hosts Missouri Baptist University Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.

The Owls (6-12, 3-7 AMC) couldn't overcome a cold shooting night against Columbia College, as the team was outscored 43-17 in the final frame. WWU came out strong and put the Cougars on their heels, as the team controlled most of the first half. DJ Johnson scored the first five points for WWU and after aNate Bitnerpull up jump shot at the 15:34 mark, the senior would give the Owls a 7-3 lead.

However, the Cougars offense would settle in and go on a 9-0 run to tie the game up at 21-21. Shortly after, Columbia College would go on to close the first half on a 8-0 run pushing the score to 29-21, giving the Cougars their first lead of the game and the advantage going into the locker room.

In the second half, it was all Cougar offense, as the Owls seemed to have had a lid over the basket while the team couldn't buy a bucket. Columbia College's Zach Rockers started CC right where they left off, with a two-pointer in the paint, making the score 31-21 in favor of the Cougars.

Johnson, would score the first field goal of the second half for the Owls at the 19:31 mark, cutting the Cougars lead down to eight. Although, that would be the closest the Owls would get for the rest of the match-up.

Columbia College offense would then find the momentum after another two-point field goal from Rockers, which started a 14-3 run for the Cougars. The Owls just couldn't get the spark going offensively and the Cougars had too many offensive threats, as CC would extend its lead to 30 under 3:00 minutes to play and go on to secure the 72-38 victory over the Owls.

William Woods would end the night shooting 34 percent from the field, were 0-of-10 from behind the arc and only reached the free throw line nine times, converting on five.

On the season, sophomore Ryan Hill continues to lead the Owls offensively, as he is averaging 11.7 points per game, shooting 54 percent from the floor and 36 percent from behind the arc. Johnson, is right behind teammate Hill, chipping in 10.9 points per game, while leading the team in rebounds with 91 total on the year.

Missouri Baptist is currently 3-13 on the season and 2-7 in American Midwest Conference play. The Spartans are also looking to bounce back to its winning ways as the team is on a two game skid. The team's last outing, also was in the hands of Columbia College, 85-61 last Saturday night.

The Owls will have their hands full, as four Spartans are averaging in double figures on the year. Leading the way is Chris Buzzell, who is averaging 16.7 points per game, shooting 45 percent from the field and has scored in double-digits in the past four games. Guards, Stephen Buckner and Adrian Kuyinu are both netting 14 points per game, as both are shooting over 35 percent from the field. Cody Hudson has only played in three games this year for MBU, which have all been since the Holiday break and he has averaged 10 points in each.

Statistically on paper both teams match-up well, as MBU averages 75 points a game compared to the Owls 65 points per game, however, WWU is shooting 43 percent from the field, to the Spartans 40 percent, while the Owls will have the average on the boards, as the team outrebounds Missouri Baptist 663-615.
