FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team will look to get above the .500 mark for the first time this year on Saturday morning, as the Owls host Williams Baptist College on Senior Day. Kick-off will start at 11 a.m.
The Owls (6-6-2; 4-3-1 AMC), got over the .500 mark in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play in its last time out, as they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University, 3-0. The team outshot HLGU, 18-9, while getting goals from Halle Schroder and
Jordan McNamara (two).
With the win over the Lady Trojans, WWU has won a season-high three straight games, which has moved them up into a tie for fifth place in the AMC.
During its three game winning streak, the Owls have outscored its opponents 7-1, while in net,
Ashley Parisi and
Rebecca Sturgess have combined for 20 saves, for a save percentage of .944.
Williams Baptist College (3-8; 1-6 AMC), meanwhile, dropped a 2-0 outing to Freed-Hardeman University back on Tuesday afternoon. The team has had its struggles as of late, losing six out of its last seven, with its lone victory coming against Central Baptist College on October 6
th, as the Lady Eagles won, 4-3.
On the year, WBC has netted 10 goals and have been led by Shelby Hammett, totaling a team-high three goals on 10 shots. Hannah Whitefoot and Maria Ramriez, have added two goals each, while Sierra Martinez, Erin Gay and Britny Vickers have contributed one goal.
In goal, Kenyonna Brown and Abigail Bormann, have combined for 108 saves, with Brown leading the way, having 91, which is 23
rd best in the NAIA.
At the conclusion of the game against WBC, the Owls will honor its seven seniors, which are Parisi, McNamara,
Desiree Strief, Schroeder,
Mackenzie Cork,
Annie Graber and
Kaitlyn Wideman.
Parisi, an O'Fallon, Missouri, native, joined the Owls in 2014, after transferring from St. Charles Community College. Since her arrival, after playing sparingly in 2014, she has led the Owls in goal this season.
The senior net-minder, has played in 14 games, while making 78 saves and allowing just 20 goals in 864:50 minutes of action. She owns a save percentage of .796 and a goals against average of 2.08.
McNamara, a Blue Springs, Missouri, native, has had a stellar four-year career wearing the Owls uniform. The senior has accumulated 41 goals, 22 assists and 104 points in 74 games for WWU, which places her fourth all-time in goals and assists.
She has been named to the All-AMC First-Team for two consecutive seasons, while as a freshman, she was named to the All-AMC honorable mention squad. In the classroom, McNamara has also found success, being named to the Academic All-AMC team the last two seasons.
Strief, a Lebanon, Missouri, native, has been a focal point on the Owls defense the last four years'. She has played in 63 games, while totaling two goals, both of which came in 2013, where she earned All-AMC honorable mention honors. Strief, is also a two-time Academic All-AMC team selectee.
Schroeder, a Granite City, Illinois, native, is playing in her first full season with WWU this year, after transferring from Lewis & Clark Community College. She has totaled three goals and a team-high four assists on the 2015 campaign, with three of those assists coming against St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Cork, a St. Peters, Missouri, native, has played in 63 games during her four seasons on the pitch for WWU. She netted her first goal as an Owl this year against Missouri Baptist, while totaling eight assists in her career. She was named to the Academic All-AMC team last season.
Graber, an Aspen, Colorado, native, has appeared in 58 games since 2012, while totaling five goals and four assists. She scored two goals in 2012, while in 2014, she tied her career-high in goals, but set new career-high marks in assists (two) and games played (21).
Wideman, a Russellville, Missouri, native, has accumulated four goals and five assists in her collegiate career with WWU. She scored a career-high two goals as a freshman, while added a career-high two assists as a sophomore. Wideman, has been named to the Academic All-AMC team twice as well.
