FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team will look for an important American Midwest Conference (AMC) victory in front of the home crowd on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls host Lyon College. Kick-off start at 1 p.m.
The Owls (3-5-2; 1-2-1 AMC), are coming off a 1-1 tie against Missouri Baptist University in its last time out. After trailing 1-0 early in the first half, WWU scored the equalizer in the 52
nd minute, as
Mackenzie Cork lifted the ball up-field for
Halle Schroeder, who then tipped the ball in between MBU's goalie, Alexandra Lair, legs and into the back of the net, which tied the score up at 1-1.
The two teams' combined for 41 shots, but each squad could only muster up one goal apiece, as the defense and goaltenders' on both teams' were stout and after 110:00 minutes of play, the outing ended in a 1-1 tie.
After its early offensive struggles to start the year, the offense has found its groove the last four games (2-1-1), as they have totaled nine goals on 62 shots, while defensively, the team has allowed just four goals.
In its last four outings on the pitch,
Renee Meyer and
Jordan McNamara have each totaled two goals and two assists, while
Jaclyn Zilch, Schroeder,
Elyssa Cappaert and Cork have added one goal. Schroeder, a Granite City, Illinois, native, also leads the team in assists, having three.
In goal,
Ashley Parisi has made 15 saves in 225:00 minutes of play, giving her now 61 saves on the season, which is 24
th best in the NAIA.
Rebecca Sturgess, meanwhile, has continued to tally more minutes in goal, as against the Spartans, she played 65:00 minutes and made a season-high six saves.
Last season, when these two teams' met up, despite outshooting the Scots 17-7, the game concluded in a 1-1 tie. Prior to that meeting, they have played a combined four times in 2012 and 2013, with both taking two victories.
This year, the Scots (6-4; 3-1 AMC), are currently riding a season-high four game winning streak, as they have outscored its opponents 20-3, including earning a 7-1 victory over Williams Baptist College on September 29
th.
On the season, the Scots are led by Anna Waldman, who has scored an eye-popping nine goals in nine starts, while adding four assists for 22 points. Waldman currently ranks fourth in the AMC in points, goals and eighth in assists.
The team has other scoring threats, which come from Isabel Suartez and Jessica Souza, who have each totaled seven goals and two assists, while three of Souza's goals came against WBC.
In goal, the team has used a quartet of goaltenders and have been led by Ali Ertl, who has started in six games and made 29 saves. Regan Kowalski has started in three games and has made six saves in 270:00 minutes of play, while Kacie De La Fuente and Darby Blaylock have both appeared in one game.
