COLUMBIA, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team hits the road on Friday night in search of its sixth consecutive win, as the Owls will pay a visit to Stephens College. Kick-off will start at 6 p.m.
The Owls (8-6-2; 6-3-1 AMC), picked up its fifth consecutive victory on Wednesday night, as they earned an impressive 3-2 win over Lindenwood University-Belleville.
The team got goals from
Jordan McNamara (two), while
Halle Schroeder netted the game winner in the 50
th minute, off an assist from
Elyssa Cappaert. In net,
Ashley Parisi and
Rebecca Sturgess combined for 10 saves.
The biggest save on the night came in the 81
st minute, when the Owls were up 3-2 and a handball was called inside the box on a WWU defender. Blanca Gomez, who entered the game with a team-high 10 goals, took the penalty shot, but Sturgess came up with the diving save, which secured the one goal victory for WWU.
With the win, the Owls now have 19 points in the AMC and currently sit just three points behind Lyon College, who is third in the AMC and two points behind Lindenwood University-Belleville, who are in fourth.
In AMC play, WWU has been dominant, especially on offense, as they have totaled 22 goals on 153 shots. Leading the way has been McNamara, who has scored eight goals in 10 games, while adding two assists for 18 points.
Schroeder, has been an added threat on offense, totaling five goals and a team-high four assists, while
Shelby Scanlan has totaled three goals.
In net, Parisi, has made 47 saves and allowed just 14 goals in 619:50 minutes played, while Sturgess, has played in 302:00 minutes, while making 20 saves and only allowed one goal.
Stephens College, meanwhile, is 6-8-1 on the year, while owning a 1-7-1 record in conference play. The Stars are coming off a 7-1 loss against Lindenwood-Belleville, which was its second defeat in a row. Prior to those two losses, the team was on a four-game winning streak, where they outscored its opponents, 20-4.
On the season, the team has totaled 46 goals and have been led by Martha Noelker, who has scored a team-high 14 goals, which is 15
th best in the NAIA. Allie Wilson has added six goals, while Kenna Mattison and Megan Peterson have contributed five goals each.
In net, Jordan Mayle has made 11 starts, while making 71 saves for a save percentage of .651 and has a goals against average of 3.35.
