ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team will hit the road on Wednesday, as the Owls have an afternoon showdown with Harris-Stowe State. Kick-off will start at 1 p.m.
The Owls (3-6-2; 1-3-1 AMC), are coming off a tough 3-2 (OT) loss against Lyon College in its last time out, however, despite the loss, the team played very well on both ends of the pitch.
Offensively, the team totaled 12 shots, while getting equalizer goals from
Jordan McNamara in the 26
th minute and
Halle Schroeder in the 54
th minute. Defensively, meanwhile, the team held the Scots to just nine shots, while freshman goaltender,
Rebecca Sturgess, played very well in the second half, making five key saves.
On the season, the Owls have netted 13 goals and are led by McNamara totaling a team-high four goals on 31 shots. Schroeder, has added two goals and leads the Owls with four assists, while
Renee Meyer has found the back of the net twice as well.
In goal, the duo of Sturgess and
Ashley Parisi, have combined for a goals against average of 2.00 in 886:50 minutes played, while owning a save percentage of .778.
Sturgess, a Jefferson City, Missouri, native, has appeared in six games, allowing just three goals and collected 15 saves for a save percentage of .833. Parisi, has started in 11 games and made 61 saves, which is 36
th best in the NAIA.
In the all-time series between the Owls and Harris-Stowe, WWU has dominated, winning 27 out of the 28 meetings, including winning 4-0 last year at Firley Field.
This season, HSSU (3-4-1; 3-1-1 AMC), has already tied its win total from 2014 and surpassed its AMC win total.
The team is coming off a 0-0 tie against Freed-Hardeman University in its last time out, while its three AMC wins, have come against Lyon College, Stephens College and Hannibal-LaGrange University.
On the year, the Hornets have tied nine goals and are led by Megan Wilson's three goals and one assist for seven points. Miranda Bohenstiehl and Mia Tucker have each found added two goals, while Kristine Hallquist and Kayla York have contributed one goal each.
In net, Bruna Prates De Oliveria A, has started in seven games and allowed just seven goals, while making 44 saves, for a save percentage of .863.
