FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods University men's basketball team will look for its fourth win in a row on Tuesday night, as the Owls host Haskell Indian Nations University. Tip-off will start at 7:30 p.m.
The Owls (4-3; 2-0 AMC), jump back into regular season play, after playing in an exhibition game against Missouri State University on Friday afternoon. Despite its effort, the Owls fell 77-56 against the Bears.
In the outing,
Bryan DeGeare led the way for WWU, as the junior netted a team-high 15 points, while adding nine boards and three assists.
Austin Lowery totaled nine points off the bench, while
Darrien Dickey,
Trey Mitchell and
Deon Pettigrew totaled six points apiece.
Prior to its game against the Bears, the Owls won its third consecutive game 85-79, over Missouri Valley College.
During that stretch, the team is scoring 85.7 points per game, while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor, 43.1 percent from downtown and have a rebounding advantage of 128-122. Defensively, meanwhile, WWU, is holding teams' to a 70.3 average and a field goal percentage of 38.2.
Lowery, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, has scored in double-figures in each of the last three games, including setting a new career-high of 22 points against the Vikings. He is averaging 19.7 points off the bench during the winning streak, while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor, 52.9 percent from downtown and is a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line.
Pettigrew, continues to play well, as he is coming off a season-high 27 points against MVC, which raised his average to 17.7 in the last three contests. The junior is shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and is second on the team with 18 rebounds.
Senior
Kevin House is averaging 11.0 points and shooting 52.4 percent from the floor, but has continued to distribute the ball well, tallying up 21 assists. DeGeare, is the fourth Owl to put up double-figure numbers during the streak, as he averaging 10.7 points and leads the team with 25 rebounds.
On the season, the team is scoring 81.0 points and have been led by the quartet of Pettigrew (14.9 ppg), Lowery (13.4 ppg), House (13.0 pgg) and DeGeare (11.4 ppg). All four players are shooting at least 41.0 percent from the floor and 31.0 percent from beyond-the-arc.
House, has totaled 47 assists on the year, which is fifth best in the NAIA, while DeGeare's 6.71 rebounds per game places him 18
th overall in the NAIA. Lowery, has continued to make it count from the free throw line, as he has missed just three attempts on the year, for a percentage of 86.4, which is 19
th overall in the nation.
Defensively, WWU, has continued to cause havoc for opposing offenses, as teams' are scoring just 76.6 points per game and are shooting just above 40.0 percent from the field. The team also ranks in the top 15 in blocks per game (5.0) and total blocks (35), which can be attributed to
Klayton Kuschel's team-high 11 blocks and DeGeare having 10.
Haskell Indian Nations (2-6), will look to snap its two-game skid against the Owls, as they are coming off a 92-83 defeat against Baker (Kan.).
On the season, the Indians are averaging 71.8 points and are led by Tsalidi Sequoyah's 13.6 avearge. Sequoyah, also leads the team in field goal percentage (55.4) and blocked shots (eight). Duelle Gore is averaging 12.9 points, while leading the team in three point field goal percentage (47.6), rebounds (59), rebounds per game (8.4) and steals (10). Wilber Everett, is third on the team in scoring average (12.1), but is second on the Indians in field goal percentage (55.2), free throw percentage (77.3), rebounds (42) and has tallied 10 steals as well.
