Box Score BROOKHAVEN, Miss. - The No. 25 ranked William Woods University baseball team captured a sweep over Calumet College of St. Joseph in its first games on the weekend series, as the team collected a 7-4 win in the first game and then posted a 7-0 shutout in the second game of the double header on Friday.
The Owls (7-3), had a strong outing in its first games since playing back on February 15
th , outscoring the Crimson Wave 14-4 on the day.
In the first game,
John Cavness got the start on the mound for the Owls, as he pitched a solid five innings, giving up two runs while recording seven strikeouts.
Dylan Hastings would come in for the relief and capture the win, striking out three batters in two innings of work.
Offensively,
Alex St. Pierre led the way for WWU, going 2-for-3 from the plate, amassing two doubles and plating two RBI's, while
Larry Price went 1-for-2, scored a pair of runs and added a stolen base in the 7-4 victory.
In game two of the double header,
Garrett Haslag and
Ryan Yuengel combine for the shutout, as Haslag collected the win in four innings, recording five strikeouts, while walking two Crimson Wave batters and only giving up three hits. Yuengel tallied his first save on the season, pitching three innings, sitting down seven batters and only allowed two hits.
Three Owls collected a pair of hits in the shutout, as
Cody Stewart went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a stolen base, St. Pierre recorded two more hits and RBI's on the day, while
Nick Spagnola batted .500 (2-for-4 ) and nabbed a stolen base.
Jordan Dey also added a hit, which was his second homerun on the season.
The Owls return to action tomorrow with another double-header, under the lights against CCSJ, the first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
