FULTON, Mo.—The (RV) William Woods University baseball team will look to extend its nine game winning streak and stay perfect in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play on Sunday, as the Owls host Lyon College for a three game series. First-pitch of the doubleheader will be thrown at 1 p.m., followed by one nine inning game on Monday starting at 12 p.m.
The games were scheduled to be played at Lyon College over the weekend, but after multiple cancellations and Mother Nature continuing to hit the south hard with rain, the Scots will make the trip up to Fulton, Missouri.
WWU (13-3; 2-0 AMC), is coming off two impressive victories they gained over (RV) Freed-Hardeman University on Thursday afternoon at Harris-Stowe State, as the team won game one 5-2 and held on for the 3-2 win in game two.
In game one, starter
John Cavness picked up his second win on the year, as he hurled 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out five. Senior
James Ball came on in relief in the seventh and earned himself the save, as he was able to escape a bases loaded jam.
Offensively, the Owls totaled eight hits and were led by
Jordan Dey going 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI, as the junior smashed his sixth home run on the season in the first inning. Senior
Cody Stewart also tallied two RBI, while going 1-for-2 at the dish.
In game two, WWU managed just three hits, but a late defensive error by the Lions in the seventh inning, gave the Owls a 3-2 lead, which was more than enough for the Owls bullpen.
The trio of
Caleb Bounds,
Dylan Hastings and
Ryan Yuengel combined for 6.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit, one walk, zero runs and struck out seven batters.
Bounds was the first out of the pen, throwing 3.0 innings and struck out two. Hastings then hit the mound next and he was able to pick up the win, as he totaled 1.1 innings and also struck out two Lions. To close out the game, the Owls gave the ball to Yuengel, who was just as dominant, as he went 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and struck out three to collect the save.
With the wins, the team has now won a season-high nine games in a row, and during that stretch, the team is batting .283, while totaling 56 runs, nine doubles, one triple, six home runs and 47 RBI.

Dustin Kremer (.357 avg) and Stewart (.350 avg) are both hitting at or above the .350 mark, while combining for 11 RBI.
Dey, meanwhile, has brought the power to the lineup lately, as he is 8-for-31 (.258 avg) the last nine games, but has hit five home runs and totaled 12 RBI, both of which are team-highs.
On the mound, the pitching staff has combined for an ERA of 2.22 and 92 strikeouts, while limiting teams to a batting average of .193.
