KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The (RV) William Woods University baseball team will take a break from its American Midwest Conference (AMC) part of their schedule, as the Owls will pay a visit to Avila University for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
 
The Owls(20-6; 8-3 AMC) are coming off a three game series sweep against Harris-Stowe State University, that saw WWU outscore the Hornets 33-12. The team escaped a 3-2 hard fought battle in game one, and then concluded the series in dominating fashion, plating 30 runs on 29 hits, to sweep the doubleheader. The Owls would record its 20^th win on the season with the season series sweep on the weekend and extend its win streak to five games.
 
In the last five games, WWU is hitting .362 from the dish as a team,  outscoring its opponents 43-15, while posting a .470 slugging percentage. Austin Clapp has been hot offensively, as the senior has gone 9-for-16 (.563) in the last five games,  collecting a double, triple and plating eight RBI's. Larry Price has also been an offensive threat, hitting .438, going 7-for-16 and tallying two stolen bases.
 
On the mound, the Owls bullpen has been arguably a key impact to its five game win streak, as they have only gave up 15 runs on 36 hits, while collecting 33 strikeouts. The staff also held its opponents to a .229 batting average. On the year, James Ball has earned an ERA of 2.30 in 31.1 innings of work, while recording 36 strikeouts and recording four saves. John Cavness has collected five wins on the season, as the starter is tied with Ball with 36 strike outs in 40.0 innings pitched.
 
On the year, Nick Spagnola is pacing the Owls offense, hitting .388 with a team-high 38 hits, while Jordan Dey is leading the team in RBI's with 21 on the season and six players are hitting above .300 from the plate.
 
Avila University is currently 19-10 on the season and 8-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). In the Eagles last outing, the team sweep Central Methodist University in a doubleheader, escaping game one 2-1 and then winning the second game 7-4. The doubleheader sweep extended AU to a four game win streak, where they have outscored its opponents 17-9 in those four games.
 
On the season, the Eagles are hitting  .304 as a team, posting 174 runs, while six batters are hitting above .300. The team is led by Kyle Simmons, who is hitting .387 from the plate, recording 17 doubles and 14 RBI's. Stephen Montisano is another player the Owls will have to keep an eye on, as he is hitting .376 on the year, leading the team in RBI's (25) and doubles (eight).  On the mound,  Cody Lewis leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 2.73 in 52.2 innings pitched, while E.J Merio has amassed 43 strikeouts on the year, leading the team.
