BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - After having its American Midwest Conference (AMC) season opener postponed until Monday, March 9
th, the Owls will now pay a visit to Baker University tomorrow, for a nine inning match-up with the first pitch set at 4:30 p.m.
The Owls (9-3) are coming off a four-game sweep against Calumet College of St. Joseph last weekend, as the team outscored the Crimson Wave 33- 12 on the weekend, while the team amassed 42 hits in the four game series and recorded its second shutout on the season.
Jordan Dey who was named the AMC Baseball Player of the Week, was red hot offensively for WWU on the weekend, going 5-for-13 from the plate, totaling four homeruns, which one was his first career grand slam and collecting a team-high nine RBI's.
On the mound,
Ryan Yuengel pitched four innings against CCSJ, posting nine strikeouts, while only giving up two hits, as the senior recorded a win and save on the weekend.
Offensively, on the season, the Owls have six players batting over .300, while
Alex St. Pierre is pacing the way hitting .400 (10-for-25), as Dey leads the team in hits (12), homeruns (five) and RBI's (16).
On the hill, WWU has three players collecting a pair of wins of the season, which includes
Garrett Haslag, Yuengel and
Dylan Hastings. Yuengel leads the pitching staff, posting a 0.73 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
Baker is currently 5-6 on the 2015 season and is coming off a 6-2 win over AMC foe Harris-Stowe State back on February 21
st, as the Wildcats totaled six runs off of eight hits.
On the season, Tevin Thompson paces the way for BU, batting a .385 from the plate, collecting 10 hits and posting a team-high eight RBI's. Ethan Jacks is also having a solid start on the season for the Wildcats, going 14-for-37 (.378) at the plate, while being perfect on the bases, nabbing 3-of-3 stolen bases on the year.
On the mound, Taylor Whittum and Seth Jones both have collected two wins on the season, as Jones has recorded a 6.35 ERA in 17 innings of work and amassing a team-high nine strikeouts, while Whittum leads the staff with a ERA of 3.18.
The Owls are 7-5 against the Wildcats going into tomorrow's match-up and will look to pick up another non-conference victory to build momentum, as the team will kick-off its AMC conference part of the schedule on Monday, March 9
th.
