FULTON, Mo. – The No. 25 ranked William Woods University baseball team is set for its season home opener on Tuesday afternoon, as the team hosts Culver-Stockton College in a nine inning showdown at the Owls Field. The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
 
After several rescheduling efforts, the Owls (10-3) had to cancel its American Midwest Conference opener this past weekend against Freed-Hardeman University, however, the team was able to pick up a nine inning game against Baker University, in Baldwin City, Kansas on Saturday evening, as the team nabbed a 8-7 victory over the Wildcats.
 
In the match-up for the Owls, the team posted eight runs on 11 hits and saw 11 different pitchers to combine for 17 strikeouts. 
John Cavness got the win in relief for WWU, as the junior was able to escape a two on, two out jam in the bottom of the 8
th inning.  He recorded four strikeouts and didn't give up a single run.
 
Alex St. Pierre lead the way for the Owls going 2-for-3 from the plate, scoring one run and tallying one stolen base, while 
Dustin Kremer went 1-for-3, plating two RBI's and produced the winning run for the Owls. 
Larry Price and 
Grant Garrett also recorded a pair of hits on the day for WWU.
 
On the season the Owls are batting at .297 as a team, collecting 108 hits, while posting 23 runs alone in the sixth inning on the year. St. Pierre paces the way for William Woods, hitting a .429 from the plate and recording 10 RBI's, which is second on the team.

Cody Stewart have also had a strong start to the season, as the seniors are all hitting over a .300. Another key impact player for the Owls has been 
Jordan Dey, who leads the team in RBI's (16) and homeruns (five). 
 
On the hill, 
Ryan Yuengel, 
Garrett Haslag and 
Dylan Hastings all have recorded two wins on the season, as Yuengel posts an ERA of 0.69 in 13 innings, with 19 strikeouts. Cavness, also has been dominating, amassing a team-high 20 strikeouts with a 1.59 ERA.
 
The Wildcats are currently, 4-12 on the season and have been on a six game skid, which saw CSC get swept by Cumberland University this past weekend, dropping the first game 5-2 and then falling 4-3 in the last game of the double header.
 
Offensively, Brandon Cotter leads the Wildcats, batting .314 and recording a team-high 16 hits, while Jake Pott is leading the team in RBI's (10) and homeruns with one on the season.
 
On the mound, Daniel Smith is the lone pitcher to record a pair of wins on the season, while posting 10 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work. Brock Kartheiser holds the team's best ERA of 5.14 and leads the team with 12 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched.
