PARKVILLE, Mo. – After winning the weekend series against Lindenwood-Belleville University, the (RV) William Woods University baseball team is set for a doubleheader against American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Park University on Tuesday. The first hurl of the action is set for 1:00 p.m.
With the 2-1 series win against the Lynxs, that saw the Owls (23-7; 10-4 AMC) drop the first game 2-1, came back to sweep day two by picking up a 4-1 victory and then taking a 2-1 (11 inning) win. The two victories put WWU in a tie for first place in AMC standings with Freed-Hardman and now have 10 conference victories.
Pitching dominance was the story in the doubleheader, as Brush went 3.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out two.
James Ball, meanwhile, was able to pick up the victory, after going 3.2 innings, allowing zero hits and striking out three batters. The trio ofÂ

James Ball combined to work 7.2 innings in the second game, allowing no runs on four hits, while striking out eight, as Ball would pick up his second win on the day.
The offense totaled six hits in the game one, three of which came off the bat of
Dustin Kremer, who went a perfect 3-for-3, while scoring once.

On the season, the Owls are hitting .307 as a team, outscoring its opponents 174-88, while amassing 79 stolen bases on the year. Spagnola, continues to be an impact player at the plate for the Owls, hitting .373, collecting a team-high 44 hits and 15 stolen bases. Clapp also continues to have a stellar year, hitting .350 from the dish, totaling 36 hits, while leading the team with six doubles on the year. Jordan Dey with a team-high 21 RBI's on the season.
The Owls pitching staff can arguably be a huge key of the team's success this season, earning a team ERA of 2.18 which is ranked third in the nation, while holding its opponents to just a .204 batting average, good enough to be second in the nation in that category. Ball is pacing the staff with an ERA of 1.71, as the senior has collected 46 strikeouts, five wins on the season and a team-high four saves in 42.0 innings of work.
John Cavness has also had an impressive season, tying Ball with five wins in 46.2 innings pitched, while totaling 38 strikeouts and only giving up 13 earned runs on the season.
Park University is currently 7-17 on the season and 4-9 in AMC standings. In the teams four AMC wins, two came from the Pirates season series sweep against No. 7 ranked Missouri Baptist University in the end of March. In its last outing, PU dropped the weekend series against Hannibal-LaGrange University, as the team took game one in dominating fashion 11-4 but then was outscored 25-8 in the final games of the series, to give the Trojans a 2-1 series victory.
Offensively, Christian Torres is the lone Pirate to be hitting above .400 on the season (.407), as the center fielder is riding on a seven game hit streak coming into Tuesday's match-up with the Owls. Torres, leads the Pirates in several categories, which includes hits (35), doubles (11), home runs (four), RBI's (25) and stolen base (12). Another player the Owls will have to keep an eye on is Zach Harris, as he is hitting .324 from the dish, posting 24 hits and 11 RBI's on the season, which is second on the team behind Torres.
On the mound, the Pirates have earned a team ERA of 6.12 on the year, as J.D Williams has accumulated an ERA of 1.59 in 34.0 innings of work, leading the team with 32 strikeouts, while only giving up 10 runs on the year. In his six appearances on the season, he has a 3-2 record for the Pirates.
