Baseball Set To Take On Missouri Baptist University On Monday

Stewart has plated a tournament best eight RBI's
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The No. 3 seeded William Woods University baseball team is set to face the No. 4 seed Missouri Baptist University in the semi-final game of the AMC Tournament, one game away from its third straight conference championship appearance. The first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.
 
The Owls (38-11; 19-7 AMC), are coming off the upset of the year, as the team defeated the No. 1 seed Freed-Hardeman University 11-8 on Saturday evening, eliminating the Lions from the tournament. Between the two teams', they combined for 19 runs, 21 hits and 11 errors, seven of which were committed by the Lions.
 
After a back and forth game, the Owls were able to head into the bottom of the ninth with the 11-8 lead, however, it turned into a nail-biter again, as after reliever James Ball got the first batter to fly-out, Seda and Looser hit consecutive singles, which brought the tying run to the plate. Then Ryan Yuengel dominated the two batters he faced, as he got Garrett Ferguson to strike out swinging and Griffin Siebert to strike out looking, which secured the three run victory for the Owls.
 
Offensively, WWU totaled 12 hits and were led by Cody Stewart going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Nick Spagnola also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while at the leadoff spot, Larry Price went 1-for-3 with two runs scored as well. Dustin Kremer, Stephen Kohler, Jordan Dey and Grant Garrett also each added one hit and one RBI.
 
Dylan Hastings got the win in relief for the Owls, as he went 2.1 innings of shutout ball and struck out four batters. Ball, also pitched well in relief, going 2.1 innings, allowing three runs (zero earned) on five hits and struck out one. Yuengel, meanwhile, earned the save, with his two strikeout performance.
 
Stewart and Spagnola have continued to stay hot from the plate going into the tournament, as the duo has combined of 18 hits between both of them in the four games of the tournament, while Stewart has plated eight RBI's, which is a tournament best.
 
On the mound, Yuengel has pitched 4.2 innings throughout the tournament, not allowing a single run and striking out six batters.
 
So far in the AMC tournament, MBU advanced out of the opening round with a 2-1 victory over Benedictine University at Springfield, in the second round the Spartans defeated FHU 7-4 before falling to Lyon College 9-5 to put them in the losers bracket.
 
Both teams recently met up in the last regular season weekend series, that saw the Owls win two-of-three of the games, to take the series against MBU. WWU took game one 3-2 and game two 4-2, but then suffered the 10-0 loss in the final game.
 
The winner of that game, will face Lyon College in the AMC Championship game at 3 p.m. that same day, which would be the third straight appearance in the championship game. The Owls would have to beat the Scots twice to bring home the 2015 tournament title.
