Women's Soccer Seeks Key AMC Win Against Rival Columbia College

Parisi is off to a fantstic start in 2015, making 43 saves, which ranks her 16th in the nation.
COLUMBIA, Mo.—The William Woods University women's soccer team will look to capture a big win on Thursday night, as the Owls travel down I-70 and take on the Columbia College Cougars. Kick-off will start at 4:30 p.m.

The Owls (1-3-1; 0-1 AMC), are coming off a tough 2-0 loss against Park University in its last time out. The Pirates outshot WWU 13-5 in the outing, while they were able to score the game-winning goal at the 3:31 mark, as Gabbi Severns netted her fifth goal of the season.

Park went on to add another goal in the 13th minute, off the foot of Emily Key to make it 2-0. The Owls defense was able to lower the Pirates shot total in the second half from nine to four, while offensively, they had a few chances to get on the board, but Park goalie Amy Roskell was able to come up with a few key saves to secure the shutout win.

Senior Jordan McNamara, a Blue Springs, Missouri, native, led WWU with three shots, pushing her to a team-high 11 on the year. In net, Ashley Parisi made eight saves, giving her 15 in the last two outings, which earned herself American Midwest Conference (AMC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

On the season, the Owls will look to get its offense going, as they have scored two goals on the year, which have come from McNamara and Shelby Scanlan. In goal, meanwhile, Parisi, has played in 335:00 minutes, made 43 saves and owns a goals against average of 2.15.

In the NAIA, Parisi, is ranked 16th in saves (43) and 14th in saves per game (8.60), while in the American Midwest Conference (AMC), she ranks third in total saves.

Last year, the Owls and Cougars (4-1; 1-0 AMC), met up twice, as during the regular season, Columbia won 1-0 behind a goal from Kelly Ross in the 20th minute.

The two teams' would meet up again in the AMC Tournament Semifinals and the Owls would get redemption at Columbia, as Jamie Palermo scored just 1:48 into the game and the defense was able to hold on from there to give WWU a 1-0 win.

This season, the Cougars are off to a fast start, winning four out of its first five games by a combined score of 10-4.

After falling to No. 23-ranked Missouri Valley College (1-0), the Cougars responded with its first AMC win on the year, as they defeated Freed-Hardeman University, 1-0. CC, outshot the Lady Lions 13-6, while Laurie Frew scored the game winner in the 18th minute, giving Columbia the win.

Frew is pacing the offense this year, scoring six goals and adding one assist for 13 points. Tiffany Weaver has also found the back of the net twice, while Kelli Westhues has netted the other.

In goal, Flavia Rosado, has started all five games, totaling 450:00 minutes of action, while making 24 saves and owning a goals against average of .800 and a save percentage of .857.
