FULTON, Mo.—After a long battle in its last outing, the William Woods University women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday night, as they travel to Central Methodist University. Kick-off will start at 7:30 p.m.
The two teams' were originally scheduled to play at Firley Field on Tuesday night, but due to weather conditions, the game was postponed.
The Owls (0-2-1), are coming off a 1-1 (2OT) tie against Avila University in its last time out. After trailing 1-0 in the first half, senior
Jordan McNamara, was able to net the teams' and her first goal on the year, in the 30
th minute, tying the game up at 1-1.
In the second half, the Owls outshot the Eagles, 11-8, but neither team could score the game-winner, so it was off to overtime. In both OT's combined, the Eagles outshot WWU 7-0, but the teams' defense and goaltender
Ashley Parisi stood tall and were able to earn a 1-1 tie.
The Owls totaled 17 shots in the game, with McNamara and
Shelby Scanlan each having five. Parisi, meanwhile, made 10 saves, one off her career-high, which earned her American Midwest Conference (AMC) Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
On the year, WWU has totaled 26 shots, seven off which have come from McNamara. Scanlan has added five, while
Annie Graber has totaled three shots.
In net, meanwhile, Parisi, has played in 245:00 minutes, making 28 saves for a save percentage of .824 and has allowed just six goals. She currently ranks 16
th in the NAIA, in both saves per game (9.33) and total saves (28).
Last year, when these two teams' met up, the Eagles (2-2), won the season series, taking game one 2-0 and the finale 2-1.
This season, CMU, is coming off a 2-0 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University back on September 1
st. The team outshot the Lady Trojans 25-2 and got both of its goals in the second half, in less than two minutes apart, as Ana Gonzalez scored at the 50:29 mark, while Nikki Noreen made it a 2-0 final at the 51:58 mark.
On the year, the Eagles offense, has totaled six goals and 81 shots, while being led by Noreen with four goals, one assist and 26 shots. Gonzalez, meanwhile, has netted the other two goals and contributed one assist.
In goal, Amy Clason-Messina, has played in 263:00 minutes, making nine saves and owns a goals against average of 1.71. Nikki Fleischmann made her first start against HLG and picked up the win, making two saves.
