FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University men's basketball team returns back to action at Anderson Arena for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) showdown against Lindenwood University-Belleville on Tuesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Owls (16-10; 12-6 AMC), are coming off a 112-105 overtime loss to No. 20 Park University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls shot 52 percent from the floor in the contest and
Austin Lowery and
Trey Mitchell both scored career-highs in the loss. Lowery scored 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while teammate Mitchell scored 27 on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor in the contest.
The Owls led by two, 97-95, with 20 seconds left in the contest but Park tied the game and forced overtime after Noel Surles hit a layup with three seconds left in the contest. In overtime Park outscored WWU, 15-8, taking the game 112-105.
On the season, the Owls are currently sitting in fourth seed of the AMC, averaging 83.4 points per game on the season, which is third best in the conference and 21st best in nation. WWU is second in the conference shooting the three pointer as they are shooting 38.4 percent, while owning a field goal percentage of 46.6 on the season.
Kevin House leads the offensive attack for the Owls as he is averaging 15.0 points per game on the season. House is shooting 53.1 percent from the floor.
Deon Pettigrew follows averaging 14.0 points per game. Pettigrew is second on the team averaging 6.1 rebounds per game.
Not only does House lead the Owls in points, he is also the leader in assists as he has 134 assists on the season and is averaging 6.1 assists per game, which is the fifth best in the nation. House also ranks in the top ten in three point field goal percentage as he is hitting 47.2 percent of his threes, which is tenth best.
Three other key offensive players for the Owls have been
Austin Lowery,
DJ Johnson and
Trey Mitchell who have pushed their season averages up to 12.3, 11.8 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Lowery, Johnson and Mitchell all scored career-high in points last week.
Lindenwood-Belleville is coming into the match-up with a 12-13 overall record and own a 9-9 AMC record on the year. The Lynx got back into the win column on Saturday as they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange, 74-71. Lindenwood-Belleville is led by ShunQuez Stephens, who is averaging 17.0 points per game this season. In their last contest, Stephens scored 18 points. He scored in double-figures in the last 17 games for the Lynx.
The last time these two teams matched up was on January 5th, when the Lynx edged the Owls, 96-91. The Owls shot 46.6 percent from the floor for the contest but it was not enough. Five players for William Woods scored in double-figures led by 21 points by
Kevin House.
Austin Lowery followed with 19 in the contest. WWU struggled from the free throw line as they shot 57 percent (12-of-21) in the contest.
