Owls Host Lyon in AMC Baseball Action

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team returns to action on Saturday and Sunday as they host Lyon College in American Midwest Conference (AMC) action at Owl Field. Saturday is a doubleheader with action starting at 12 p.m. Sunday is a single nine inning contest starting at 12 p.m.
 
The Owls (13-10, 2-4 AMC) look to snap a four game losing streak this weekend. The Owls have dropped four straight AMC games after winning its first two of the season.

On the season the Owls are batting .307 on the season, collecting 203 hits, with 50 extra base hits. WWU has scored 129 runs this season. The Owls have outscored opponents 26-3 in the fourth inning this season. Tanner Wetrich leads the team with a .400 batting average. Wetrich has collected 24 hits on the season and driven in 11 runs for the Owls. Jansen Smith follows hitting .366 with 10 RBIs and seven doubles on the season.
 
On the mound, John Cavness leads the pitching staff with a 4-1 record in 40 innings pitched. He has an ERA of 2.70, and has struck out 30 batters and in his six starts. Out of his six starts, Cavness has three complete games. Holding an ERA of 3.38 is Ryan Phillips. Phillips is 4-2 on the season in his six starts, with one complete game and one shutout. In three starts this season, Jacob Guilianelli has an ERA of 2.76.
 
As a pitching staff, the Owls have a team ERA of 5.30 and are holding opponents to a batting average of .284 on the season. William Woods has six players with a 3.00 ERA or lower this season.
 
The Scots of Lyon College enter this weekend with a record of 13-11 and 6-0 in AMC action and they are one of two undefeated teams left in AMC play.  The Scots have won its last five games, all of which have been on the road. On March 15th, Lyon swept Blue Mountain College, 13-4 and 12-4.
 
On the season, Keegan Floyd leads the team with a batting average of .375 as he has 21 hits in 56 at-bats this season. Four of his hits are doubles. Right behind Floyd is Evan Johnson, who is hitting .360 on the season with two doubles and two home runs. Joseph Sitzman leads the team with 25 RBI on the season.
 
On the mound for Lyon, the Scots are hold a team ERA of 4.20 and are allowing opponents to hit .270 on the season. Leading the way for the Scots is reliever Trenton Coles. Coles has appeared in 11 games this season, collecting two wins and one save. He holds an ERA of 1.84 on the season. Following Coles is Cole Ragsdale, who is 4-2 on the season in six starts and holds an ERA of 2.90.

Last season the Owls dropped a three game set to Lyon on March 15th and 16th. The Scots won the first two games of the series prior to dropping the last game of the series.
