Baseball Host Culver-Stockton In Non-Conference Action Wednesday

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Culver-Stockton College in non-conference action at Owl Field. First-pitch is set for 6 p.m.
 
The Owls (14-12, 3-6 AMC) look to get back in the win column on Wednesday night after dropping the third and final game of a three game set with Lyon College. The Scots and Owls split the first two games and the Scots took the deciding game on Sunday.

On the season the Owls are batting .306 on the season, collecting 230 hits, with 54 extra base hits. WWU has scored 151 runs this season. The Owls have outscored opponents 26-3 in the fourth inning this season. Tanner Wetrich leads the team with a .380 batting average. Wetrich has collected 27 hits on the season and driven in 12 runs for the Owls. Jordan Dey is hitting .366 on the season with a team high 22 RBI and 13 doubles.
 
On the mound, the Owls are led by a trio of pitchers. Caleb Bounds holds a 2.95 ERA on the season as he has appeared in ten games making one start. Ryan Phillips follows with a 4-3 record and a 3.18 ERA on the season in seven starts. John Cavness follows as he is 4-2 on the season with an ERA of 4.01.
 
As a pitching staff, the Owls have a team ERA of 5.32 and are holding opponents to a batting average of .274 on the season. William Woods has six players with a 3.00 ERA or lower this season.
 
The Wildcats of Culver-Stockton College enter this midweek game with a record of 10-13 and are 0-1 this season against American Midwest Conference (AMC) teams. The Wildcats lost to Lindenwood-Belleville, 1-0, in ten innings back on March 8th. The Wildcats have won six straight games with its last loss coming to Lindenwood-Belleville.

Following Bishop is reliever Tyler Smith, who is 0-1 on the season with an ERA of 2.13 in nine appearances this season.

This is the first of two match-ups this season for the Owls and Wildcats. WWU will travel to Canton, Mo. on April 26 to face Culver-Stockton College. Last season the Owls and Wildcats met on March 17th in Canton and William Woods came away with a 8-1 victory.
