Men’s Basketball Faces Columbia In AMC Championship Monday Night

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Men's Basketball team looks for its third straight road win in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament on Monday evening as they travel to Columbia College to face the Cougars in the AMC Championship game. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
 
The Owls (20-12, 14-8 AMC), knocked off No. 1 seed Freed-Hardeman University on Friday night in the AMC Semifinals. With the win the Owls advance to the Championship contest and the winner of the Championship game will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship.
 
On Friday, the Owls defeated Freed-Hardeman, 92-82, giving the Lions its first loss on the season at home. The Owls had six players score in double-figures on the evening with Deon Pettigrew scoring 20 points and collecting 10, both team-highs on Friday night. Kevin House followed with 15 points. DJ Johnson and Trey Mitchell followed with 13 points apiece, Austin Lowery scored 11 points and Bryan DeGeare rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
 
The Owls shot 43 percent from the floor for the contest and were 21-of-29 from the free throw line in the game. The Owls also scored 24 points off of 16 Freed-Hardeman turnovers in the contest.

On the season, the Owls are averaging 82.8 points per game, the third most points in the conference. William Woods is hitting 38.0 percent of their three pointers on the season, which is the second highest percentage in the AMC.
 
Kevin House leads the offensive attack for the Owls as he is averaging 14.4 points per game on the season. House is shooting 50 percent from the floor on the season. Not only does House lead the Owls in points, he is also the team leader in assists as he has 165 on the season.
 
Following House is Deon Pettigrew who is averaging 13.6 points per game. Pettigrew also is collected 6.0 rebounds per game. Trey MitchellDJ Johnson and Austin Lowery round out the double figure scores for William Woods. Mitchell, is averaging 11.9 points per game. Johnson is scoring 11.4 points per game while Lowery is scoring 10.8 points per game. Bryan DeGeare leads the team in rebounding averages 6.5 rebounds per game and is scoring 9.9 points per game.
 
Columbia is coming off an 86-81 victory over Park University on Friday night. The win improved the Cougars to 27-5 on the season. Columbia shot 47 percent in the victory over Park and made 10 three-pointers on the game. Zach Rockers led the way for the Cougars as he scored 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Columbia had six players score in double-figures in the win.

On the season, the Cougars are averaging 82.4 points per game and are led in scoring by Nic Reynolds, who is averaging 15.2 points per game. Reynolds has only started in seven contests for the Cougars this season. Columbia is shooting 47 percent from the floor on the season.
 
In the last meeting between these two schools, Columbia came away with an 89-64, victory over the Owls on senior day for William Woods. The Owls struggled shooting the ball in the contest as they were 2-for-15 from behind the arc in the loss. Columbia shot 47 percent from the floor and held the Owls scoreless for five minute stretch in the second half. The Owls only scored 28 points in the second half. Columbia as held the Owls to its two lowest scoring outings on the season.
