Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The William Woods University Women's Tennis team advanced to the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship after defeating Asbury University, 5-0, in the first round matchup.
The Owls will now face seventh seed Westmont College in the second round which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday May 18th.
After trying to get the match in yesterday and play being stopped a few minutes into play, William Woods came out today and did not waste any time in ending its match. The Owls won all three doubles matches in the match.
Karyna Sagalai and
Paige Smith won No. 1 doubles,
Chelsea Steward and
Julia Mulder won No. 2 doubles and
Felicia Cesar and
Alba Salinas won No. 3 doubles. Each doubles match final was 8-2.
The match was clinched in No. 4 and No. 6 singles for the Owls. In No. 4 singles action, Salinas defeated Laura Ross, 6-0, 6-0, giving the Owls its fourth point of the match.
Julia Mulder, playing No. 6 singles, defeated Victoria Horseman, 6-0, 6-0.
William Woods as leading in each of the other matches on the day but they were not finished.
