Avila Defeats Owls Baseball, 10-1

Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team was defeated by Avila University on Wednesday night 10-1 in non-conference action at Owl Field. With the loss, the Owls fall to 11-17 on the season.  
 
William Woods returns to action tomorrow, Thursday March 23rd when they travel to Park University for a single nine-inning contest. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls started off to a rough start when the first batter, Chase Watt, was walked and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Raymond.  Watt acme into score on a Brandon Chandler single putting the Eagles ahead, 1-0.
 
The Owls would attempt to answer back, in the bottom of the first. With one out, Nolan Aherin reached on a bunt single. With two outs, he stole second base but would be stranded on second base.
 
The Eagles would threaten again in the second inning. With runners on the corner, Dany Paradis-Girioux threw a wild pitch which allowed the runner on third to score and the Eagles took a 2-0 lead over the Owls.
 
The two teams would exchange outs until the top of the fifth when the Eagles offense would take advantage of Owl pitching staff misfires, adding four to the score growing its lead to 6-0. In the frame, Avila scored four runs on three hits. Daniel Wells, Josh Shewmaker and Trevor Norbury recorded an RBI hit in the inning.
 
The Owls offense would take advantage of Eagle mistakes in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Priest reached base on an error. Jansen Smith would also reach on another Eagle mishap, advancing Priest to third base. Priest came in to score the only run for the Owls on an Avila wild pitch. Alex St. Pierre would keep the lineup moving as he reached on a walk, but the Owls would not be able to generate another run, ending the inning with one run scored. After five innings of play the Owls trailed Avila, 6-1.
 
Avila would add onre more in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning growing its lead to 10-1 over the Owls.  
 
The Owls could not get anything going at the plate over the final three innings of the contest and would fall to Avila, 10-1.
