Owls Baseball One of Three Teams Still Alive at AMC Championship

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University baseball team is one of three teams who remain alive at the American Midwest Conference Baseball Championship, which is being held at Carnes Field on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University.
 
The fifth seed Owls, top seed Missouri Baptist and third seed Lyon are the remaining teams in the championship. Because of a no Sunday play policy, Missouri Baptist will battle William Woods on Monday afternoon at Noon in the game which will determine the AMC's second Automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The winner of that game will play Lyon at 3 p.m., and if necessary, the final two teams will play a winner take all game on Tuesday at Noon.

About the Owls
- After winning its first two games of the AMC Championship, the Owls suffered its first loss on Saturday to Lyon. The Owls defeated Harris-Stowe (16-1 (7 inns.)) and Freed-Hardeman (8-7). The Scots beat the Scots 10-4
- During the AMC Championships, the Owls are hitting .309 in its three games its played
- WWU has the best-earned run average in the AMC Championship. The Owls pitching staff has a 3.60 ERA in 25 innings pitched
- Along with a low ERA the Owls pitching staff is allowing opponents to hit .237. This is the second-best mark in the AMC Championship
- Over the Owls first three games, Jansen Smith is leading the Owls with a .500 batting average. Konrad Kemper is batting .444 and Tyler Cunningham is hitting .385
- Jansen Smith and Tyler Cunningham sit tied for second in the Championship with two home runs each. Cunningham has hit one in the last two games, while Jansen Smith hit two against Harris-Stowe
- On the mound, Chase Feucht has a 1.29 ERA in seven innings pitched which is the second best in the AMC Championship.
- Over the Owls first three games, WWU's starters struck out six batters each in its starts
- WWU pitching staff has combined for 26 strikeouts at the AMC Championships
 
About the Spartans
- The Spartans of Missouri Baptist enter Monday's matchup with a 3-1 mark in the AMC Championship. After dropping its first contest of the Championship, Missouri Baptist has won three straight elimination games.
- In Missouri Baptists last contest, they knocked out host Freed-Hardeman, 10-5, on Saturday night
- Monday's matchup against the Owls will mark the second straight season the Owls and Spartans have matched up semifinals matchup, in which the loser will be eliminated
- The Spartans pitching staff is leading the AMC Championship with 40 strikeouts. In its four games, the Spartans are averaging 10.00 strikeouts per game
- As a team, Missouri Baptist is hitting .300 on the tournament. They are led by John Hagan, who is hitting .471 (8-for-17) in the Spartans four games
- Missouri Baptist has scored the most runs in the AMC Championship with 36. They are averaging nine runs a contest
- The Spartans pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.62 in 37 innings pitched in this seasons AMC Championship
 
About the Scots
- Lyon College is the last undefeated team in the AMC Championship. They defeated Central Baptist (5-1), Lindenwood-Belleville (15-14) and William Woods (10-4) to advance to the AMC Championship Game
- By advancing to the AMC Championship contest, the Scots have clinched one of two automatic berths into the NAIA
- The Scots will play the winner of the William Woods and Missouri Baptist contest at 3 p.m. in the Championship game on Monday
- As a team, Lyon is hitting .291 at the AMC Championship, which is the fifth best mark in the AMC
- The Scots pitching staff has limited opponents at the plate. Lyons pitching staff is holding opponents to hit .234 at the Championship
- Keegan Floyd leads the Scots at the plate as he is hitting .500 (6-for-12) in the Scots three games
- Jordan Braswell leads Lyon in RBIs at the Championship. He has driven in eight runs, including five against Lindenwood-Belleville on May 5th
- Tyler Tognarine leads the AMC Championship in ERA. The 2017 AMC Pitcher of the Year, has a 1.00 ERA in nine innings pitched this week. In his lone start this week, he struck out seven, and held the Mustangs of Central Baptist College to a .156 batting average
