Men’s Basketball to Host No. 6 Columbia College

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team is set to host No. 6 Columbia College for their second American Midwest Conference game of the season. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

About No. 6 Columbia
Columbia is currently in a three-way tie for second in the AMC. They are 5-2 on the season with a 2-0 conference mark.

Most recently, the Cougars narrowly defeated Harris-Stowe State University in a home contest Tuesday evening, 74-71. Four players scored in double digits.

Starter Justin Shaw leads the Cougars with 101 points as he is shooting 51.5 percent from the field (35-68). Thibault Benabid leads the Cougars in rebounds with 58 and blocks with 15. He ranks second in the conference for blocks per game with 2.14.

Thibault Benabid has five national rankings. He ranks seventh in the nation for blocks per game and 15th for total blocks (15). His other three rankings are in rebounding categories. Also in the rankings for the Cougars is Justin Shaw.

As a team, CC holds 10 top-50 rankings.

The Owls come off a 10-day hiatus from play.

Most recently, the Owls defeated Lincoln College (Ill.) in the program's first-ever double overtime game. Aaron Brookins recorded his first collegiate double-double with 17 points and 11 boards, and David Johnson Jr. led the team with 25 points. The 88-87 victory broke the Owl's losing streak and brought them to 3-4 on the season.

The Owls are 0-1 on conference play with the loss coming from Park University on November 15.

David Johnson Jr. is averaging 18.6 points per game and leading the Owls with 130 points. Austin Curry follows close behind with 106 points and is leading the team in rebounds with 52. Treshawn Gause is has a team-high 27 assists.

David Johnson Jr. has five top-50 national rankings. He ranks 19th in NAIA for offensive rebounds (3) and 21st for blocks per game (1.714). His 12 total blocks put him 22nd in the rankings. Jason Walker and Austin Curry are also ranked in the top 50.

As a team, the Owls have eight top-50 national rankings. The rank 14th and 16th for blocks per game (4.429) and total blocks (31), respectively.
 
Against the Cougars
The Cougars lead the all-time series with WWU, 21-3.

The Owls and Cougars went 1-1 last season. Early in the 2017-18 season, the Owls grabbed just their third win over Columbia as they defeated the seventh-ranked team in the nation at home, 84-69. The second time around, the No. 5 Cougars pushed out a five-point win over the Owls, 85-80.
 
What's Next
The Owls will host AMC opponent Missouri Baptist for their last home game in over a month. Tip-off for the December 1 game is set for 3 p.m.
