Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team started their back-to-back road series with a split at Missouri Valley College. The Owls dropped game one, 10-4, before bouncing back to win game two, 4-3. The Owls are now 3-6-1 on the season.
Trevor Garriott hit a three-run home run in game two, pushing the Owls to a four-run lead which later turned into a win.
The Owls face Central Christian College (Kan.) in a late addition doubleheader Thursday, Feb. 14. The neutral site contests are set for a 3 p.m. start in Coffeyville, Kan.
Game One
The Owls scored early in the game as
Tyler Bracht scored on
Connor Poulson's double down the right field line. Poulson advanced to third on a dropped fly and scored on
Marquise Doherty's groundout to give the Owls an 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The team added a third run with
Isaiah Gibbs' triple to the right field fence to score
Jordan Smith.
In the bottom of the second, MVC took advantage of a wild pitch and put themselves on the board. They added two more in the third on a two-run homerun to tie the game at 3-3.
The Owls put up the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth while taking advantage of a balk, but MVC racked up six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-4 lead.
MVC added their final run in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 10-4.
Tristan Steffens (0-1) pitched the first 4.1 innings of the game. He struck out four batters while allowing six hits.
Jeremy Hidalgo pitched the remaining 1.2 innings and struck out four while allowing four hits.
Game Two
In the top of the third inning,
Chase Gibson hit a two-out double down the right field line.
Brady Owen came in to pinch run for Gibson and was brought home with
Brian Granton's single.
The Owls added three more runs as Garriott hit a two out, three-run homer over the right field fence in the fourth inning.
MVC began the bottom of the fourth with a double which turned into a run two batters later. They added two more on a double to bring the game to 4-3.
Quincy Jones came in to pitch in the bottom of the seventh and earned a save after three straight strikeouts to end the game with a 4-3 win.
Allan Brown (1-0) was credited with the win. He pitched 2.2 innings, struck out two and allowed no hits.
Parker Wilkinson started on the mound and pitched 3.1 innings while striking out four.
