Box Score 2 COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – The William Woods University baseball team swept Central Christian College (Kan.) in their late addition neutral doubleheader Thursday afternoon. The Owls came ahead with a dominating 21-7 win in game one, followed by a 7-3 game two win. The Owls move to 5-6-1 on the season with the two wins.
The Owls will begin conference play on Saturday, Feb. 23, with a doubleheader at Lyon College. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. They will close out the three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 24.
Game One
CCC scored a run early in game one with an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the inning, the Owls quickly put up seven runs.
The team added four more in the second and two in the third to take a 13-1 lead.
CCC scored one in the fourth, but the Owls scored eight combined in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 21-2 lead.
CCC scored five in the bottom of the seventh as their late-game rally, but it came up short as the Owls recorded the final two outs to end the game with a 21-7 win.
Taran Oulton (1-1) was credited with the win at the mound.
Game Two
Isaiah Gibbs scored the first run of the game on
Chase Gibson's at bat in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the third, CCC took a 2-1 lead with two RBI singles, but the Owls immediately took hold of the lead in the bottom of the inning with a
Marquise Doherty two RBI single.
CCC tied the game in the fourth inning as they scored what became their final run, 3-3.
Gibson once again brought home Gibbs, this time in the bottom of the fourth to score the go-ahead run.
The Owls added two more runs in the fifth inning and their seventh and final run on
Tyler Bracht's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
The Owls recorded 11 hits in the game with
Trevor Garriott,
Quincy Jones and
Jordan Smith all going 2-for-3 from the plate. Doherty and Russell Strikchuk each recorded two RBI.
Hayden Davey (1-0) was credited with the win. He pitched 3.1 innings, allowing no hits and struck out six.
Collin Kessler started on the mound for the Owls and pitched the first 3.2 innings.
