Owls Fall Short in Battle For First Place in AMC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team fell to the conference leader Saturday afternoon in the battle to lead the AMC, 81-63. The loss at Missouri Baptist University gave the Owls their second conference loss while moving them to 12-10 on the season. MBU moves to 8-0 in the AMC.
 
The Owls travel up the road next Saturday to play Columbia College at 3 p.m. The two teams are currently tied for second place in the AMC with the Owls holding the tiebreaker of the Cougars. 
 
By The Numbers
15 – Makenzie Fessler scored a team-high 15 points for a double-double, scoring 13 of his points in the second half.
13 – Spencer Yoggerst hit three three-pointers for 13 points.
12 – Nathan Schwartze added 12 points to the board.
10 – Makenzie Fessler pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
Game Highlights
MBU took up a 10-point lead five minutes in, 12-2. A free throw from Spencer Yoggerst broke up the run, but MBU answered with six more points to take a 15-point lead with 12:39 on the clock, 18-3.
 
An 11-0 run over the next two minutes with eight points coming from Nathan Schwartze cut the game to four with 10:12 to play, 18-14.
 
A three from Yoggerst cut the game to two with 6:36 on the clock, but MBU closed out the half with a 10-0 run to take a 15-point lead heading into halftime, 41-26.
 
MBU pushed their lead to 23 just under seven minutes into the second half, 51-28.
 
Two free throws from Jared Crutcher, two jumpers from Makenzie Fessler and a jumper from Darius Yohe cut the game to 15 just over halfway through the second half, 55-40.
 
MBU extended their lead back to 20 points.
 
A three from Andrew Nett with 19 seconds to play cut the game to 16, but MBU closed out the game with an 18-point win, 81-63.
