Strong Second Half Helps Owls Top HSSU

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team used a powerful second half to top Harris-Stowe State University Sunday afternoon, 70-51. The two-win weekend brings the Owls to 13-11 on the season with a 8-3 conference mark.
 
The Owls begin a three-game road stretch at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Tuesday, Feb. 8. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

42 – The Owls outscored HSSU 42-25 in the second half.
20 – Spencer Yoggerst went 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul line for a floor-high 20 points.
12 – Darius Yohe added 12 points to the win after shooting 5-for-7 from the field.
11 – Jared Crutcher added 11 points to the win, recording a double-double.
10 – Jared Crutcher pulled down a team-high 10 boards. The Owls recorded 10 blocks as a team, ranking second in the record book.

The Owls blasted a 15-0 run to start the game, holding HSSU scoreless through the first seven minutes.
 
After HSSU got their footing, they put together a 19-2 run over a five-minute span to take a two-point lead with 6:44 to play, 23-21.
 
A layup from Andrew Nett put the Owls back on top, and two free throws from Darius Yohe extended the Owls' lead to two at the end of the half, 28-26.
 
A layup from Makenzie Fessler began a 15-0 run spanning four-and-a-half minutes to take up a 13-point lead with 11:42 to play in the second half, 47-34.
 
A fast break dunk from Jared Crutcher gave the Owls a 17-point lead with 7:22 left on the clock, 56-39.
 
The Owls maintained their healthy lead, and an 8-0 run ending with a Yohe dunk gave the Owls a 23-point lead, 70-47. HSSU scored the final four points of the game to end it with a 70-51 Owls' win.
