ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University men's track and field team grabbed five top-five finishes at day one of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships.
Quentin Webert won the hammer throw, earning First Team All-AMC honors and grabbing the lone win for the Owls on the day. The 4x800-meter relay team earned Second Team All-AMC honors, and
Jackson Conner earned Third Team All-AMC honors in the high jump.
The Owls currently sit in third place with 33 points. They trail Columbia (49.50 points) and Missouri Baptist (47.00 points).
Throws
The Owls grabbed two top-five finishes in the hammer throw, including first place.
Quentin Webert tossed a 54.90-meter throw to win the event.
Daulton Melton threw 44.51-meter to finish fifth.
Zachary Knopf placed sixth in the javelin with a 36.75-meter throw.
Jumps
Jackson Conner placed third in the high jump with a 1.75-meter jump, setting a new PR by .05m.
Jacob Polacek finished ninth with a 1.60-meter jump.
Track
The 4x800-meter relay team, comprised of
Jackson Conner,
Dustin Russell,
Ian Schwierjohn, and
Hunter Carpenter, placed second with an 8:13.40 finish. Their finish ranks second in the WWU record book.
In the 100-meter dash semifinals,
Isaiah Buse qualified for the finals with his fourth-place, 11.39 time. It set a new PR for him by .08 seconds. He also placed 10
th in the 200-meter dash semifinals with a 23.83 time.
Jenson Starr placed seventh in the 10,000-meter run, shaving 30 seconds off his PR in his 32:59.00 finish.
Orion Parker placed 11
th as he PR'd by over 1 ½ minutes.
