High Intensity, Fast-Paced Game Ends in Owls' Loss

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Williams Baptist University in Anderson Area Thursday evening in a high intensity, fast-paced game. The game tilted in favor of Williams Baptist, 70-67, bringing the Owls to 8-9 on the season with a 2-5 conference mark.
 
 

The Owls celebrate senior day on Saturday, Jan. 14, prior to their 3 p.m. tip-off versus Lyon College.
 
 

49 – The game saw 49 total fouls, split almost evenly between the two teams.
44 – The Owls scored 44 of their points in the paint.
19 – Abdulh Diaby posted a career-high 19 points (7-10 FG, 5-8 FT).
14 – The Owls' largest lead of the game was 14 just after the start of the second half.

WBU pushed out an early lead and maintained it over the first part of the half.
 
A jumper from Karter Koenig began a 7-0 Owls' run over a minute and a half span to even the score at 26 all with 7:30 to play. The lead changed possession four times over the next few minutes.
 
With 2:34 to play in the half, the Owls blasted a 14-2 run to hold an 11-point lead heading into halftime, 45-34.
 
A fastbreak dunk from Abdulh Diaby just over a minute into the second half gave the Owls a 14-point lead, their largest of the game.
 
WBU cut the game to single digits with a 13-2 run, and by the halfway point of the second, they managed to bring the game within two, 54-52. With 8:43 to go, they evened the score, and on the next play, they took hold of the lead for the first time in the half, 56-54.
 
A three from Spencer Yoggerst with 1:21 to play brought the Owls within one, but two WBU free throws kept the Owls from being able to win it.
