Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Missouri Valley

Columbia, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team got their season started, as they hosted Missouri Valley for a doubleheader on Saturday. 

The Owls dropped both games top the Vikings. 
 
Game One
The Vikings sent a homerun over the right center field fence in the first inning. 
 
MVC added another run in the top of the third on a single to center field. 

A bases loaded walk brought in the third Vikings run of the game, who led 3-0 after six innings. 
 
Zach Krause got the Owls on the board with an RBI double to to deep right center. 

Ryan Long started on the mound for the Owls going 5.1 innings allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five. 

Conrad Hansel faced one hitter.

Kaleb Haley went 1.2 innings in relief allowing no runs on two hits and striking out three. 
 
Krause went 2-2 at the plate with an RBI. 

Tyler Horton, Isaiah Gibbs and Blain Tuepker added a hit each. 
 
Game Two
Blain Tuepker got the Owls started early a two run home run to left field in the first inning.

The Vikings answered with a run in the top of the second on a triple. 

The Owls added two more runs in their half of the second as Alex Wimer scored on a Tyler Horton single and Jack Niggemeier stole home and WWU led 4-1

MVC added a solo run in their half of the third on a double

Tuepker drilled his second two run shot to left field to give the Owls a 6-2 advantage after three innings. 

The Vikings saw five runs cross the plate in the fourth inning to take their first lead of the game.

Isaiah Gibbs scored an unearned run for the Owls to tie the game at 7-7 after six innings of play. 

MVC broke things oen with a five run 7th. 

The Vikings scored twice in the 8th inning for the 15-7 lead. 

MVC capped off the scoring with a run in the ninth. 

Ian O'Malley went three innings on the mound in the start, allowing four runs on four hits. 

Andrew Fyffe tossed 2.1 innings in releif without allowing a run, striking out one and gave up just one hit. 

Tyler Horton went 3-5 at the plate with an RBI and a walk. 

Blain Tuepker went 2-4 with four RBIs. 

Zach Krause added a hit. 

Up Next: 
The two teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday beginning at noon. The game will take place at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo.
