COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team pulled out a win over Missouri Valley College to end the three-game series Sunday afternoon. The 9-8 win gave the Owls their first win of the season.

The Owls got on the board early with a two RBI triple from
Isaiah Gibbs, bringing home
Alex Wimer and
Tyler Horton.
MVC used the second and third inning to even the score.
Zach Krause hit a RBI single to right field to score
Ian O'Malley in the fourth to go up by one run, but MVC again evened the score in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Blain Tuepker hit a RBI single to center field to score Gibbs. O'Malley followed with a two-run homer over right field to give the Owls a 6-3 lead.
Jack Niggemeier plated the Owls' seventh run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, but MVC took their first lead in the eighth with a three-run homer, 8-7.
In the bottom of the inning,
Zach Krause hit a solo home run to even the score, and an error on what should have been the third out allowed Jude Gremillio to score, putting the Owls up 9-8.
- Tyler Abney grabbed the win on the mound. He pitched the final three innings, allowed two runs and struck out one.
- Jared Stephens started on the mound and pitched the first six innings while striking out four.

The Owls play four games at the Joplin Midwest Preview starting on Friday, Feb. 17. Friday's games will be played at the Joe Becker Stadium, and Saturday's games will take place at the Wendell Redden Stadium.
