JOPLIN, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team went 2-2 at the Joplin Midwest Preview over the weekend. The Owls opened the weekend up with a split on Friday, and again split on Saturday to finish up their series.

The Owls host Baptist Bible for a four-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 24. First pitch on both Friday and Saturday are at 12 p.m.
William Woods def. Viterbo, 8-6
- The Owls scored seven of their eight runs in the fifth and six innings. Five of the runs were a result of Isaiah Gibbs at the plate (double, homerun).
- Isaiah Gibbs' base-clearing double in the sixth scored the go-ahead runs that eventually won the game.
- Isaiah Gibbs and Zach Krause each hit a homerun.
- The Owls had four players hit doubles: Tyler Horton, Isaiah Gibbs, Matt Hanson and Rylee Mabe.
- Isaiah Gibbs went 3-4 from the plate and finished with five RBI and one run scored.
- Pitching: Andrew Fyffe grabbed the win on the mound. He pitched 5.2 innings as relief and struck out five. He allowed just one run and only five hits.
Evangel def. William Woods, 2-1 (8 innings)
- The Owls fell 2-1 in an extra inning.
- The Owls scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a double play to send the game into an extra inning.
- Evangel scored the winning run on a leadoff double, scoring the runner placed on second for the international tiebreaker rule.
- The Owls outhit Evangel 6-4 with six different players getting hits.
- Pitching: Ryan Long (0-1) tossed the complete game and was credited with the loss. He struck out 14 of the 28 batters faced.
William Woods def. Roosevelt, 4-3
- The Owls scored the winning run in the sixth inning on a groundout RBI.
- The team scored all four runs on separate plays.
- Kamron Morris went 3-4 from the plate with an RBI.
- Taylor Hopkins hit the Owls' only extra base hit with a double.
- Pitching: Jared Stephens grabbed the win on the mound. He pitched 5.1 innings and struck out eight. Tyler Abney was credited with the save. He pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two of the six batters faced.
Saint Mary (Kan.) def. William Woods, 6-3
- The Owls scored two in the second and one in the fifth for their three runs.
- Jack Niggemeier went 2-2 from the plate with a double, two RBI and one run scored.
- The Owls recorded six hits on the day.
- Tyler Horton stole twice, and Jack Niggemeier stole once.
- Pitching: Brock Glavey was credited with the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings and struck out three. The Owls had six total pitchers in the game.
