WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The William Woods University men's basketball team came up just short in the down to the wire game at Williams Baptist University Thursday evening. The 70-69 loss brings the Owls to 13-12 on the season with a 7-8 conference mark.
Jared Crutcher and
Darius Yohe each recorded a double-double.

The Owls close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Lyon College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
The Owls' seeding in the American Midwest Conference Championship rides on Saturday's result.

After a close back-and-forth beginning to the game, WBU pulled away with back-to-back threes five minutes in, 13-8. Back-to-back layups from
Grant Peters and
Abdulh Diaby cut the game to one with 13:04 to play, but WBU responded with an 8-1 run to take an eight-point lead, 21-13.
The Owls answered with a 6-1 run to cut the game to three just over halfway through the first.
A layup from Diaby brought the Owls within one with under four minutes to play, and a jumper from
Nathan Schwartze just before the buzzer left the Owls trailing by one, 41-40.
The Owls took the lead for the first time since () with a
Fred Robinson layup two minutes in, 42-41. WBU pushed back with a 9-1 run to take a seven-point lead, 50-43.
The Owls turned the tables yet again, laying down an 8-0 run to again go up by one after seven minutes of play, 51-50.
With just under 10 minutes to play, a layup from Schwartze gave the Owls a two-point lead. WBU went back ahead, but a three from
Spencer Yoggerst with 4:34 on the clock again gave the Owls a one-point lead, 64-63.
WBU stayed one possession ahead, but the Owls evened the score up twice. With two good
Jared Crutcher free throws, the two teams sat with 67 points with 1:40 to play.
WBU hit a three with 29 seconds on the clock to lead 70-67. The Owls were unable to hit a three to tie the game and resorted to a layup, ending the game with a one-point loss, 70-69.
