WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The William Woods University men's basketball team opened the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championship with an 82-65 win at Williams Baptist University to advance to the semifinal round.

The game was tight for most of the first half with the possession changing 12 times through the first 13 minutes of play. A jumper from
Nathan Schwartze followed by his own three 40 seconds later gave the Owls a four-point lead with 6:20 on the clock, 25-21.
The Owls maintained the lead for the remainder of the half. A 7-2 run with a dunk from
Jared Crutcher, a jumper from
Darius Yohe and a three from
Fred Robinson put the Owls up by six with 3:09 to go.
The Owls crammed an 8-0 run in in the final minute of the half to go into break with a healthy 12-point lead, 45-33.
WBU cut the game to five less than three minutes into the second half. The Owls pushed their lead back to double-digits, but WBU again cut the game to a two-possession game three more times.
A layup from F. Robinson started an 11-0 run over a three-minute span to give the Owls a 14-point lead with just under five minutes to play, 72-58. The Owls didn't look back from there.
A three from Schwartze and two good free throws from
Abdulh Diaby with just under a minute to play gave the Owls their largest lead of the game, 81-63. The Owls finished out the game with an 82-65 win.
