Owls Sweep Trolls in Raining DH

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team grabbed two wins in the rain Thursday afternoon against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The Owls blanked the Trolls in game one, 2-0, and went on to win game two, 9-4. The weather finally cleared up about three innings into the second game. 
 
The Owls improve to 10-8 on the season.
 
 
  • The Owls grabbed a 2-0 shutout victory over the Trolls.
  • The Owls scored both their runs in the third inning ­– Matt Hanson led off the bottom of the inning with a homer over the left center field fence, and Tyler Horton doubled to center field to score Jack Niggemeier.
  • The Owls were outhit 7-3.
  • Tyler Horton went 2-3 from the plate with a double.
  • TCC left 10 runners stranded including three in the top of the seven.
  • Pitching: Ryan Long (2-1) pitched the complete game win. He struck out seven of the 31 batters faced.
 
 
  • The Owls won 9-4 with runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.
  • TCC got on the board first with a ground out RBI in the first inning.
  • The Owls game-tying run in the second came on a Rylee Mabe RBI single.
  • TCC walked in Tyler Horton for the go-ahead run in the third. Zach Krause then hit a base-clearing double to put the Owls up 5-1.
  • The Owls scored three in the fourth – a run on Horton's RBI double and two runs on Isaiah Gibbs' two RBI double.
  • TCC plated three in the sixth.
  • Isaiah Gibbs hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to cap off the Owls' runs.
  • The Owls finished with seven hits. Four of them were multiple base hits (2B – Tyler Horton, Isaiah Gibbs, Zach Krause, 3B – Ian O'Malley)
  • Pitching: Jackson Truesdell started on the mound and pitched 2.0 innings. Jude Gremillion (1-0) grabbed the win after pitching 1.0 innings. Logan Blumhagen and Carson Prescott pitched 1.0 innings each, Conrad Hansel pitched 0.1 innings, and Tyler Abney closed out the game with the remaining 1.2 innings.
 
 
 

The Owls host Culver-Stockton College on Tuesday, March 14, for a single, nine-inning game starting at 3 p.m.
