Baseball Goes 2-1 in Series at Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University baseball team went 2-1 in the three game conference series at Lyon College.
 
The Owls improve to 25-14 overall with a 10-5 mark in conference play.
 
 

Game One – W, 6-1
Game Two – L, 6-7
Game Three – W 13-6
 

 
  • The Owls plated three in the first, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
  • Ian O'Malley went 3-3 from the plate with a RBI and one run scored.
  • Matt Hanson went 2-3 from the plate with a home run, three RBI and one run scored.
  • Tyler Horton went 2-4 from the plate with a triple, a RBI and one run scored.
  • Pitching: Ryan Long (5-2) pitched the complete game win. He allowed just one hit and one run while striking out five.
 
 
  • The Owls took the 6-5 lead with two runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth, but Lyon scored two in the bottom of the fifth for the win.
  • Blain Tuepker went 3-4 from the plate with a run scored and a RBI.
  • Isaiah Gibbs went 2-4 from the plate with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Pitching: Wyatt Fischer (2-1) came in as relief, pitched 1.2 innings and was credited with the loss. Brock Glavey started on the mound and pitched 3.0 innings. Andrew Fyffe pitched 3.1 innings with four strikeouts to close out the game.
 
 
  • The Owls put up 13 runs on 16 hits. They scored at least one run in six of the nine innings. The put up nine in the first and eighth inning alone.
  • Ian O'Malley went 4-6 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Vicent Pyeatt went 3-5 from the plate with a double, a triple and two runs scored.
  • The Owls finished with five stolen bases including two by Tyler Horton.
  • Pitching: Jared Stephens (4-2) started on the mound. He pitched 6.2 innings with five strikeouts for the win. Tyler Abney pitched 0.1 innings in relief, Jude Gremillion pitched 0.2 innings and Carson Prescott closed out the game with the final 1.1 innings.
 
 

The Owls play their final non-conference games on Wednesday, April 19, as they host University of Saint Mary (Kan.) for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
