CONWAY, Ark. – The William Woods University baseball team finished out the regular season with a 2-1 series win over Central Baptist College. The Owls finished the regular season with a 28-18 record, 13-8 in conference play.
- The Owls plated three in the eighth to win the opening game.
- Blain Tuepker went 3-3 from the plate with a RBI and one run scored.
- The Owls had six players record a hit. Three finished with doubles – Ian O'Malley, Matt Hanson and Taylor Hopkins.
- Pitching: Carson Prescott (3-1) came in as relief. He pitched the final 3.2 innings and was credited with the win. He struck out two and allowed four hits. Brock Glavey started on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings with one strikeout.
- The Owls plated one in the second, five in the fourth and three in the sixth.
- The team outhit CBC 12-4. Seven Owls recorded a hit.
- Jack Niggemeier went 3-4 from the plate with a run scored.
- Isaiah Gibbs, AJ Willenberg and Taylor Hopkins each recorded two hits.
- Blain Tuepker and Kamron Morriss each recorded two RBI.
- Pitching: Ryan Long (6-2) pitched 8.0 innings for the win. He struck out four and allowed just four hits. Kohl Weber came in as the closer and pitched the final inning, seeing just four batters.
- The Owls scored their seven runs early in the game.
- CBC plated three in the bottom of the eighth to pull ahead and eventually win the game.
- AJ Willenberg went 4-5 from the plate with a double, a run scored and a RBI.
- Blain Tuepker recorded two hits included a double and a RBI.
- Jack Niggemeier brought home two runs in the second.
- Pitching: Tyler Abney (0-1) was credited with the loss on the mound. He pitched 1.1 innings. Jared Stephens started on the mound and pitched 1.0 innings. Logan Blumhagen pitched 3.0, Andrew Fyffe pitched 2.1 and Kaleb Haley pitched 0.1.
The Owls enter the American Midwest Conference Championship as the three-seed. They open the tournament at 7 p.m. on May 2, against the winner of the six-seed Central Baptist and seven-seed Hannibal-LaGrange. To view the tournament page, click
