Box Score NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - William Woods University (9-6-3, 5-2 American Midwest Conference) earned the third seed in the AMC Tournament after shutting out Central Baptist College (0-10-1, 0-7) 4-0 Saturday at Centennial Soccer Park. It was the Owls' last-ever AMC regular season match, the conference they've been in for the last 27 years, and all but the first eight years of the program's history.
From kickoff to the final whistle, WWU was clearly the better team. It outshot the Mustangs 13-0 in the first half and 9-1 in the second, 22 (10 on goal) to one (none on goal) overall. Four different Owls scored in the dominant offensive performance.
"It's nice to finish our regular season with a win," William Woods women's soccer coach
Lauren Robb said. "The whole team got minutes and contributed positively in the game. We're excited to get to work this week and get prepared for the tournament."
Putting The Woods on the scoreboard 13:16 into the contest,
Hannah Loethen capped her team-high seven-goal regular season with trickery inside the penalty box. With a Mustangs defender attempting to mark her, Loethen kicked the ball up and easily headed it in.
Eleven minutes later,
Megan Hughes caught CBC's goalkeeper off guard moments after a stoppage in play, taking a shot from distance and sending it over the netminder's head to further the Owls' lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute.Â
Another WWU sophomore joined the goalscoring, as
Macie Parmer netted her first goal as an Owl when she slotted the ball into an open goal after the Mustangs goalkeeper stopped a shot near the right post. The goal by Parmer, the 2023 Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association's Class 1 Player of the Year at nearby Tolton, happened with 36 seconds left in the first half.
A freshman-to-graduate student connection finished William Woods' scoring, with
Lauren Helmert taking a pass from
Zoe Lockhert and chipping it past CBC's onrushing goalkeeper and into the right side of the net. Lockhert picked up her fourth assist, joining Hughes in leading the team in that statistic, and the Camdenton alumna's 14 points this season were the second most for the Owls, one behind team leader Loethen with 15.
Despite not making a save, William Woods goalkeeper
Belle Boschert (5-4-3) made history, tying Kristen Antle, who played on the Owls from 2003-04, '06, for the program's career shutouts record with 15. Boschert posted her fifth shutout this year, the most since her freshman campaign.
