Box Score 2 OZARK, Mo. - Kaden Kinsler had another solid outing for the Owls, belting two triples in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. William Woods (8-6) again split its doubleheader at Mission University (7-8), going to extra innings in both contests. WWU earned a 7-6 win in 10 innings in game one before falling 5-4 after the eighth inning of game two.
Joe Celeste doubled to lead off the second inning for WWU, with Kinsler drawing a walk. A sacrifice bunt by
Taylor Hopkins moved the runners into scoring position for the Owls, with
Vincent Pyeatt cranking a single up the middle to clear the bases, advancing to second as Mission tried to limit the damage.
MU managed to scratch a run across in the bottom of the second, but the Owls tacked up another pair in the top of the third.
Kamron Morriss poked a one-out single to left scoring
Tyler Horton, with the first of two Kinsler triples pushing courtesy runner
Rylee Mabe across the plate for a 4-1 lead.
Mission tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth, followed by empty frames in the sixth and seventh for both teams.
AJ Willenberg finally gave Kinsler the opportunity to score, lining a single deep to left. Mission equalized in the bottom of the eighth and kept pace with the Owls in the ninth.
Kinsler launched his second triple of the day to lead off the 10th. Hopkins laid down a perfect suicide squeeze to score Kinsler and moved to second on a sacrifice by Nolan Reichers. Woods stranded Reichers at second, but made reasonably quick work of the Mission lineup in the bottom of the tenth to hold on for the win.
Game two also went to extras, this time after William Woods mustered a comeback to tie the game 4-4. After the teams traded sac flies in the first inning - Max Hanson scored
Jack Niggemeier for WWU and Landon Richards scored Grant Berryman for MU - Mission scored three in the bottom of the second.
Hanson was the beneficiary of a Kinsler sac fly to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third, then belted a solo shot over the right field fence in the top of the fifth.
A Morriss double scored Kinsler in the top of the sixth to tie things at 4-4. Unfortunately, the Owls weren't able to capitalize after loading the bases in the top of the seventh and Mission was able to scratch a run across in the eighth for the win.
The Owls finally make their first appearance at the Backer Sports Complex, hosting Missouri Valley College in a single nine-inning game on Tuesday, Feb. 27. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., with Casey Wieder on the call for the William Woods Sports Network.
