Women's Soccer To Host Second Annual Katie's Save Tribute Match

FULTON, Mo. - In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10, William Woods University will host its second annual tribute match to raise awareness and funds for Katie's Save Foundation as the Owls take on the University of Jamestown on Sunday, Sept. 8. Katie's Save was created by the family of Katie Meyer who died by suicide in 2022, to support, protect, and save students and their families from the devastation of preventable tragedies.

The date was chosen as a reminder of the newly launched 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, with proceeds from both ticket sales and an on-site raffle going to support the foundation's ongoing quest to provide mental health and suicide prevention support for student-athletes.

"Suicide awareness is a topic that holds close to my heart," said Owls sophomore Zoe Harris. "It is so important that people know that they are never alone, and that it is okay to not be okay. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone. There is no shame in asking for help!"

In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, a number of local businesses have donated prize baskets, with tickets available for just $5 at wwuowls.com/tickets now until gameday. Thanks to Bek's the Fulton Diner, the Post Office Bar and Grill, Black and Gold Nutrition, Get Loaded Nutrition, Grit Fitness for their donations.

Along with the great prizes donated by businesses in the Fulton community, Gina Meyer has assembled a gift-basket with Katie's Save/Nike apparel, with a basket of WWU Women's Soccer branded gear rounding out the prize list.
