CREVE COEUR, Mo – The men's basketball team hit the road to face the Missouri Baptist Spartans (8-0, 4-0 Heart), falling 69-59 in a tough conference match-up.
William Woods University (3-6, 1-3 Heart) hit some troubles to start the game, facing a 16-0 run from the Spartans to open the game. Woods would fight and claw their way back into a one-possession game late into the half. The Owls' frontcourt would give the Owls a much-needed boost, with
Brock Davis going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc with 9 points and
Jacob LaBounty going perfect from the field with 8 points.
Thanks to a strong defensive stretch, Woods entered the break down just 33-29 despite the Spartan 16-0 run to start the game.
Each offense would come out clicking from the half, trading points with the Owls and getting within one point of the Spartans early in the second half.
Mark Onyejekwe would lead the Owls with 8 points, and
Clay Butler added a good spark off the bench with 7 points. Despite the late fight from the Owls, the early deficit proved too much for them, as they fell to the Spartans.
The Owls were led by Davis with 14 points, and
Demarco Buchanan added 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Owls' bench contributed with Butler adding 9 points and LaBounty adding 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The Owls look to hop back into the win column as they get a break and hop back into action on the first of December to take on UHSP for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
