WARRENSBURG, Mo. - As the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships fast approaches, the William Woods University men's track and field team continued to set season and personal best performances, in the Outdoor Mule Relays, hosted by NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri Friday at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.

For the second time this season, the Owls' 400-meter dash runners had a strong showing, led by Demario Wright, who broke the 50-second barrier for the second straight week and placed 15th out of 42 at 49.73 seconds. Oshawi Burgher also reached the finish line in less than 50 seconds, taking 16th at 49.92. Joining Wright and Burgher with personal records for WWU were Angel Lottie at 50.54, Brady Musgrove at 51.02 and Tanner Gillaspy at 51.76.

Continuing his strong season, Woods's Ian Schwierjohn ran his first sub-4-minute 1,500 run of his career, finishing 15th out of 45 at 3:58.35, then he followed it up with a 1:59.24 in the 800. Wyatt Martin joined Schwierjohn with a PR in the 800, clocking in at 2:00.07.

"Demario and Ian are both having great seasons, and they are setting the tone for the rest of the team," William Woods track and field assistant Gregory A. Keeler said.

The Owls seek to keep up their strong showings when they return to the track and field for their final meet of the regular season, the Culver-Stockton Invitational, hosted by future conference opponent Culver-Stockton College next Friday at Richeson Track in Canton. The men's field events will begin at 10 a.m. and track at 11:20 a.m.
