L.J. Watson was a three-year member of the WWU Owls baseball team during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons. During his team at William Woods, he saw action as an infielder and outfielder.

"When Coach Munns called I was speechless," remarked L.J. Watson. "I am not one for individual achievements. Winning as much as possible doing whatever was necessary was the only thing I was concerned about so I was beyond excited and appreciative to be inducted into the WWU Athletic Hall of Fame."

The three seasons Watson spent in an Owls uniform were some of the most prolific seasons in school history. Over his three seasons at William Woods, the Owls averaged 34 wins and finished in second place in the AMC Regular Season three times. During the 2011 season, WWU won the 2011 AMC Postseason Tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.

Watson's name dominates the Owls Baseball record book. He's tied for the single season record for home runs with 14 in 2010. Watson ranks second in single season triples with five in 2010. He had a .747 slugging percentage in 2010, which is the highest ever recorded in a single season. During the 2011 season, he drove in 54 runs, which is tied for third most.

Besides claiming single season records, Watson's career records are just as impressive. Watson holds the career record in doubles with 44, and home runs with 28. He ranks second all-time in runs with 144, runs batted in with 136 and slugging percentage. That is not all as he ranks fifth with 169 hits in his career, which spanned three seasons with the Owls.

During his three years as an Owl, Watson was named First Team All-AMC as an outfielder in 2011, and earned honorable mention All-AMC honors in 2009 and 2010. He was a two-time AMC All-Academic team.

Not only did Watson excel on the field but he also excelled in the classroom and as a leader to his teammates and in the community.

Following his career at WWU, Watson became the fifth William Woods baseball player to sign a professional contract. He played for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
